December is here, and the magic begins, but so does the clutter. ✨
This month Momma Jane is offering you some helpful decluttering tips to help with the holiday chaos.
Not the holiday magic sprinkled through the cold days, or the smell of cinnamon drifting out of every store, but because of the way people soften. Smiles don’t feel as forced, we are willing to hold doors open a bit longer, we have this desire to create happiness for others; it is as if kindness seems to run through the air we are all breathing.
We usually crave that holiday magic in homes too, but with that extra bit of magic comes clutter. Typically by the end of the year we get that strong desire to declutter; clear out the old, get organized, and breathe again as we get ready to usher in a new year.
So this month, we’re going to bring in the magic together; gently, thoughtfully, lemony fresh, one day at a time.
So let’s start remembering, decluttering isn’t always going to look magical.
Sometimes it looks like every toy bin dumped out onto the floor, clothes covering the entire floor at mountain heights, or the counter disappearing because we emptied out a cabinet or two.
And you know what? That’s part of the process.
My mom always said it would get messy before it got cleaner, and as an adult I can fully attest to

🍋 1. Lemon Fresh Start
If you’re anything like me, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed when we look at an entire house and think; well french toast, where do I even begin?
The trick is: don’t begin everywhere. Just begin somewhere.
The art of decluttering is starting with something small and making the goal attainable so you feel satisfied with the result and have a better chance to keep decluttering!
Start with one room, one closet, one drawer, one cabinet, or one area that’s been feeling heavy. You don’t need to conquer the whole house hun, just start a ripple.
When I start, I snag my Momma Jane’s All Purpose Cleaner, a towel, and turn on some music.
Something about being prepared and listening to the soundtrack of my life gives me the super powers I feel that I need to turn this chaos into magic and dive deep into decluttering.
🧺 2. Big Mess Before It Feels Better (And that’s okay love!)
First I just want you to know how proud I am of you, for just starting. Decluttering what feels messy is hard. Going through memories, detaching from keepsakes, and preparing ourselves for a new future is hard work.
While you’re decluttering the drawer or closet, ask yourself gentle questions:
- Do I use this, or am I just used to seeing it?
- Does this bring me joy or love when I look at it or use it?
- Am I keeping this to please someone else?
- Would someone else love this more than I do?
Give yourself grace and let the clutter go; mentally and emotionally.

✨ 3. A Little Quickie Clean
It is no secret, decluttering can take some serious time, so it’s nice to have an instant clean feeling too. Every home has some sort of “sticky spot” that needs attention.
We’ve been avoiding it, promising ourselves we would get to it soon because we know with Momma Jane’s Cleaner it would be a breeze. Maybe it’s that glass accessory you love but haven’t cleaned in a year, that sticky spot in the back of the pantry that always snags the boxes, or the stickers that your kids felt the need to decorate the house with. Let’s be honest we all have that sticky spot we’ve been avoiding.
We need to take that spot and use it as a quick pick me up to get back into the cleaning groove. Try to find one of those little forgotten messes, grab a bottle of Momma Jane’s Resin or Sticky Cleaner, and clean away with our lemon magic.
Because nothing quickly lifts stubborn, stuck on buildup like these lemon fresh drops. Once you’ve cleaned the sticky away you can take the time to organize and declutter the space too, so it’s a win-win!
Momma Jane’s Cleaning Secret:
- Add a drop to a dropper full of Momma Jane’s Cleaner to the situation, and swirl around to coat.
- Add hot water to dilute if necessary.
- Let it sit for 2–5 minutes.
- Watch the buildup lift away like it was never there.
- Rinse, wipe, and smile at that sparkle.
It’s quick, it’s satisfying, and it’s the perfect motivation to get back to that room you need to finish decluttering.
Here is a little video where we used Momma Jane’s Cleaner on our silverware drawer, a mess that took no more than 10 minutes to clean but one I pushed off for too long!
🌿 4. Decluttering the Heart — One Day at a Time
Not all clutter sits on shelves. Some of it sits quietly in our hearts.
Maybe it’s old expectations we battle with, thoughts of doing things different, or maybe the relationships that have gone quiet. Not to mention this silent pressure to make “perfect” memories, participate in things that maybe drain our joy, or the weight of wanting to just “make it through” the holidays.
But here’s the truth friend…
We aren’t perfect. We will make mistakes. We will mess up this holiday season, or maybe we already have.
But the people who want to be in your life, will want to communicate with you; they will want to work towards understanding or forgiving, because life without you isn’t something they want to do.
And sometimes we also need to remind ourselves the things or people we hold onto physically or emotionally may have already served their purpose.
Let them go.
Bless them on their way out.
I think of our Resin Cleaner here, loosening up what’s been stuck for far too long.
Give the sticky parts time, warmth, and a few drops of lemon love… and they soften, lift, and clear.
That applies to our homes.
That applies to our hearts.

✨ A little personal with Momma
Ever since I can remember, December has always carried a special kind of magic for me. My grandma had a very unique “pet” from the time I was one year old; reindeer, and boy she loved sharing them with others because it brought a sparkle of wonder to anyone who saw them.
As I grew up, I had the opportunity to start helping her. School groups would drive out to her property, where the kids would get to meet the reindeer; not in a book, not in a movie, but in real life. After that, we’d go inside her little Christmas cottage for snacks: a reindeer-themed cookie, a juice box, and then
story time where I would have the responsibility of reading a reindeer book to the kids. We always ended the visit with a reindeer craft that everyone could take home.
For nearly two hours, she created pure magic in those children’s eyes. We got to watch them forget about the rest of the world and step into a different reality; one where Christmas felt close enough to touch. So much of Christmas and the happy feelings, can feel far away or make believe, but meeting something they only thought existed in stories, you could see the moment their hearts understood it was real.
Those reactions; the wide eyes, the gasps, & the joy, that was the magic that shaped me. It’s one of the biggest reasons I became a teacher. I’ve always loved witnessing that spark in kids, that takes their breath away.
As we go through this holiday I hope you can find that spark for yourself, that you go slow enough to see the simple joyful moments of this season.
I hope you remember this:
Between the gifting, baking, wrapping, and cleaning… take a breath and remember:
Your home doesn’t need to be perfect to feel like home.
And you don’t need to do it all.
Just take it one day at a time.
Let go of what’s heavy.
Make room for what’s good.
And let the lemony sunshine in.
Here’s to a lighter home, a clearer mind, and a heart ready for a magical new year.
Sending you all a BIG hug and a lot of love
