Let’s ditch the ‘New Year, New You’ pressure this year, and let’s chat about some gentle resets that actually fit our lives; non-toxic cleaning habits for busy homes, a laundry hack that guarantees a small win before breakfast, and easy cleaning tips to help us cultivate a peaceful home in 2026.

3 Gentle Resets for the New Year | 2026 | Momma Jane's Blog

First let’s get this straight, this month isn’t about becoming someone new; it’s about gently resetting ourselves instead of feeling the need to restart. It’s about building daily cleaning routines that support the life we’re already living and inviting our families to join us.

January has a reputation that we need fixing. Fix your routines. Fix your home. Fix yourself. But I want to say this clearly: fixing implies something is broken. And you, my friend, are not broken!

We are growing. We are adapting. We are learning how to live inside this season of our life, whatever it looks like right now. January doesn’t need to be loud or demanding. It can be quiet. It can be kind. It can be gentle. It can begin with something as simple as making the bed. I know everyone has new year resolutions and goals, but truth be told, I think we should start small.

Hello 2026 with Gentle Resets with Non Toxic Cleaning Habits for Busy Homes

Why Our Brain Loves Small Wins (The Science of Cleaning)

Our brain loves finishing small tasks, such as checking something off a list or making our bed. When we do it, it creates a sense of completion, releasing a little dopamine reward. It offers a quiet “I did it” or “I showed up” moment before the day continues to ask more of us.

Our brain wants us to win; small, guaranteed wins are really a preference. So let’s talk about how we talk to it about cleaning. Cleaning often carries a lot of weight, shame, and pressure, hence why we tend to avoid it. We live with this idea that if things are messy, we have failed. But physical messes don’t mean failure; they mean life was lived.

What if we could change this idea, that cleaning isn’t about fixing, but about caring? Caring about yourself. About being able to reset a space so it can hold YOU better. A space that feels safe to relax, and not a reminder of all the things you need to do. It starts with doing gentle resets this new year, for YOU.

3 Gentle Resets for Busy Homes with Non-Toxic Cleaners

Cleaning should feel safe to touch, to breathe around, and to use alongside the people you share space with. All of Momma Jane’s Cleaners were created so cleaning can be something done together, not avoided or feared. When the cleaner is safe, the whole family can help.

I wanted to share some gentle resets that I do in my house for myself, daily. Most of them are actually before bed to help my “Future Self” have a better morning.

1. For Everyday Surfaces and Everyday Living

We’d all love to have a deep cleaned kitchen to start each morning, with dishwashers and sinks emptied. But we can’t always do that. Some nights we are busier than usual; some nights we just choose to be present instead of having a clean house.

But what if we could do something small, but magical for our morning self? What if, before we head to bed, we cleaned off one counter in the kitchen? Just a small area where breakfast can be made or lunches could be packed. Do it right before you check in for the night or ask the kids to help after dinner, it won’t take more than 5 minutes. Grab your Momma Jane’s All Purpose Cleaner, our non toxic all purpose cleaner, give the counter a few sprays, and finish with a good wipe down.

2. The Secret “Delay Start” Laundry Hack

Gentle Resets for the New Year | Delay start washing machine | Momma Jane's Blog

Next up, let’s talk about the L word: Laundry. This is one of my favorite laundry hacks for busy moms. Did you know most newer laundry machines have a delay start button on them?

Meaning we can pack the washer before we head to bed, push the delay start, and have that baby running early in the AM before we wake up. Once we wake up, our clothes are already 1/3 of the way done! That deserves a mini WOOOP WOOOP!!

Here is a short “How to Delay Start your Washer” video explaining how button functions. Search your machine to see if you have this function, and let us know in the comments if you utilize it this function too!!

3. How to Clean Resin Pieces Without Toxic Fumes

Let’s talk about those intricate beautiful pieces you have. They are wonderful to use, but lets real sometimes things sit longer than we planned. They get sticky. They get layered. They get ignored.

If given the option, a clean piece always feels better to start with. What if cleaning became part of your winding down routine, so the next day already begins feeling like a gentle reset?

This is NOT a Fixing Season, let’s be Picky!

Whether you’re gently resetting your kitchen, your cleaning rituals, or your own boundaries this month, know that you aren’t broken. You’re just refining your space.

As I step into 2026, I’m finding that at 33, my definition of a ‘clean home’ is changing. It’s no longer just about sparkly counters or things being in their right places; it’s about the energy we allow inside our homes and the intentionality we keep within it.

I’ve always been a morning person, I love the quiet light and the fresh start of a new day. But lately, I’ve realized that my best mornings actually begin the night before. By choosing to do a few small “gentle resets,” at night  I wake up feeling like I’m already one step ahead of myself. It’s become a form of self-care, a way to show love and service to my future self so I can show up fully for my family.

This year, that intentionality is reaching further. I’m becoming much pickier about who I surround myself with, who we put in front of my daughters, and how I protect our peace.

As a natural giver, I’ve spent years pouring into others, but 2026 is about teaching my girls the difference between having a generous heart and being taken advantage of. We are learning how to be helpful without being walked on.We’re going slower in life, in our decisions, in our plans. We’re protecting our energy.

And honestly? I’m realizing that I don’t need a ‘New Me’ this January… I just need do some gentle resets with my boundaries so I can be the mom my daughters deserve.

I want to remind you, you don’t need to overhaul your life this month or this year. You don’t need perfect systems or color-coded chore charts.

You are not behind.

You are not failing.

You are not broken.

Progress doesn’t have to be loud to be real; a made bed counts, a wiped counter counts, a moment of care for self-love counts. January isn’t asking you to become someone new. It’s inviting you to keep becoming who you already are with some gentle resets, this new year.

Here is to making 2026 our own.

Thanks for reading friends,

With love
